The People’s Defence Forces cautioned travellers against unnecessary or nighttime travel on parts of the Yangon-Mandalay highway in central Myanmar, where their members are planning to launch attacks on junta forces
The People’s Defence Forces (PDF) this week advised civilians to minimise travel on certain sections of the the Yangon-Mandalay highway in Mandalay Region, where they anticipate imminent clashes with the Myanmar military.
Members of the Natogyi Township PDF—part of the larger Myingyan District PDF—gave these warnings verbally while stopping and inspecting vehicles at a resistance-controlled checkpoint at milepost 318, urging commuters and visitors to limit their use of the route, especially at night, and to remain at safe shelters nearby if fighting should break out.
“Military operations will soon be carried out along this route. We ask for your cooperation,” a PDF member said in a video clip recorded on Monday, after inspecting a queue of vehicles.
