At around 5:30 p.m. today, the Myanmar military carried out an aerial bombardment of an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Ponnagyun Township, Arakan State, using a fighter jet to drop two 500-pound bombs.

The military carried out the airstrike at around 5:30 p.m. today against the Kan Thar Yar IDP camp, located near Thayet Cho village tract in Ponnagyun Township.

During the bombing, at least six displaced people living at the camp were killed, while around 10 others sustained serious injuries, according to local residents.

Rescue workers said the exact number of casualties remains unclear because they are still searching for the bodies of those killed in the attack. However, they said that at least six people are believed to have been killed.

“Some of the bodies were found badly dismembered and difficult to identify. We are still searching. Since the military bombed a camp where a large number of displaced people were living together, there are many casualties,” a rescue worker told ONN.

Those who were injured in the bombing have reportedly been transported for medical treatment. It is continuing to investigate the details of the casualties among displaced civilians resulting from the bombing.

The IDP camp in Ponnagyun Township is primarily home to displaced people from Sittwe Township. It is also a camp where children and elderly people are among those living there.
