At least 11 civilians were killed in Tigyaing Township, Sagaing Region, following a series of airstrikes and heavy artillery attacks by the junta on 6 and 7 September, according to the Tigyaing Revolution (TR) group.
A naval flotilla descending from Bhamo, Kachin State, launched attacks on villages along the Irrawaddy River while passing through Tigyaing.
The dead included five people from Maung Kone village, one from Kyaukmaw village, three from Bo Kone village, and two from Welgyi (Chone) village. Many others were reported injured.
On 6 September, artillery shells fired from Tigyaing landed near Kyaukmaw village, causing civilian casualties.
The following day, bombs dropped by a Y12 aircraft providing air cover for the flotilla struck Kamni, Maung Kone, and Bo Kone villages, killing and wounding residents, the TR group said.
The flotilla advanced downstream and was reported near Zin Chaung village in Thabeikkyin Township on the morning of 8 September, according to the Wetlet Information Network.
It added that Y-12 aircraft and fighter jets were conducting reconnaissance and airstrikes along the flotilla’s route, warning residents to stay at least two miles from river ports.
