The Arakan Army (AA) fighters have attacked a military convoy near Kyaukphyu locality of Rakhine State, resulting in the death of over 20 soldiers.
According to a military source, the column of junta forces, comprising one hundred soldiers, entered the AA-controlled areas in the morning hours on 24 February. Soon they were surrounded and then attacked by AA fighters leading to their heavy casualties.
"The junta army is continuously attempting to overrun AA-controlled areas. The AA has successfully repelled those advances, resulting in a number of casualties on their side. At least 20 soldiers were killed in the conflict. The bodies were scattered in the area," added the source.
Lately, the junta has been employing a large number of militia members to attack the AA-controlled areas under Kyaukphyu township. However, the AA fighters have effectively countered their attacks causing heavy casualties on their side.
Another military source on the ground informed Narinjara News that due to the high casualties, the junta is utilizing drones, naval forces, and artillery shells to destroy the civilian areas.
"The military commission continues to initiate attacks, relying on artillery, air power, and naval forces. However, they struggle to combat on the ground effectively and hence face more casualties. Being targeted by snipers is one thing, but dying in battleground is another. Due to this, they are maliciously targeting the civilians," explained the source.
Earlier on 17 February, a combined force of 70 soldiers from the 32nd police battalion advanced towards the area near Taichung dam. They also faced annihilation from the AA fighters and finally lost at least 10 soldiers from their group in the armed conflict.
