Reports indicate that certain Muslim extremist leaders, under the banner of "Rohingya," are conducting recruitment speeches in the Muslim refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, urging refugees to take over Arakan by force.
According to recruitment videos circulating on social media, Dil Marmat a former leader of a pro-military Muslim militia who collaborated with the terrorist Myanmar military during the 2024 Maungdaw battles delivered a speech on April 4 at the Balukhali No. (9) Muslim refugee camp, inciting attendees to invade Arakan.
During the recruitment event, Dil Marmat stated: "Are our lives going to end right here? Oh, teachers, Maulvis, and students who will answer to God when these people die? Everyone must die eventually; no one is immortal. There is merit in dying while fighting for Arakan. If you die in battle there, you can give a good answer to God. If I die, I will die fighting for Arakan. How many people do we need to take back Arakan?"
He further claimed that forming multiple separate groups was ineffective and that they must unite to reclaim "their country." He told the crowd, "I will tell you how to fight for it."
"We must strive, including myself, so our people are no longer oppressed here or there.
Teachers and students cannot just sit idly by. We have no more time. We have been here for nine years. Who among us has been able to return to Arakan? Therefore, we must plot to establish and fight for our land. Everyone in this refugee camp must join the fight. Only then will we get our country," Dil Marmat urged during the April 4 rally.
Dil Marmat and his group have held several public meetings and recruitment drives in the Kutupalong refugee camps: once on November 10 of last year, again on December 20, and on January 3 of this year. During these visits, thousands of refugees reportedly welcomed him with floral wreaths and cheered his speeches.
Dil Marmat was a key figure in forcibly conscripting Muslims into pro-military militias during the 2024 battles in Maungdaw. He collaborated with the terrorist Myanmar military in leading the arson attacks on local villages and the Buthidaung Central Market. He was also involved in the arrest and killing of local Rakhine, Hindu, and Muslim residents in Maungdaw Township.
In August 2024, as the battle for Maungdaw intensified, he fled to Bangladesh with his group. It is reported that many Muslim civilians died along the way due to his actions.
Currently, sources say Dil Marmat has been increasingly active in the Bangladesh refugee camps since last November, using the issue of repatriation to organize speeches and build mass public support.
Political analysts are raising questions regarding whether the Myanmar military is backing Dil Marmat’s recruitment efforts from behind the scenes.
