⁨Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,966) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.


A total of (30,800) people have been arrested by the junta in connection with opposition to the arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,352) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,883) remain to be verified.


These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.


The junta continues to carry out terrorist attacks on civilians and buildings considered non-military targets. On April 1, junta forces carried out an aerial bombing in Ngapali town in Thandwe Township in Rakhine State, killing four members of a family, including two children. On April 2, a junta aerial bombing in Nyaung Pin Thar Village, Monywa Township, Sagaing Region, destroyed hospital buildings and several houses. On the same day, junta forces launched an offensive into Hpet Pin Aing Village, Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, burning down houses and causing almost the entire village to burn down. According to reports from the ground, civilians were also killed and injured as a result of further attacks using firearms and drones.


In addition, on April 3, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing on a monastery in Waw Lay Village, Myawaddy Township, Kayin State, destroying the entire monastery building. On April 4, they also fired heavy weaponry at Chaung Shey Village, Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region, despite the absence of clashes. Two civilians were killed as a result.
