Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,447) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.


Since the coup, a total of (29,937) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,622) are currently in detention, (11,341) of whom are serving sentences.


According to the latest information gathered and confirmed by AAPP, (77) people have been arrested under the Protection of Elections Law, among whom (54)individuals have not yet been identified.


These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.


In Sittwe Prison, Rakhine State, inmates have been suffering from skin diseases caused by unclean water, and the Prison Superintendent has refused to provide effective medicine for their treatment. As a result, the spread of the disease has worsened, and almost the entire prison population is now affected.


Moreover, the junta has been conducting airstrikes across townships in Rakhine State, killing five civilians in an aerial bombing on Minbya Township and six civilians in an airstrike on Yoe Ta Yoke Village, Ponnagyun Township, on November 7. Additionally, on November 8, an airstrike on a school in Kyauk Than Chay Village, Ponnagyun Township, destroyed school buildings and killed two women, while another aerial bombing on a Basic Education High School in Pauktaw Township killed four civilians.
