Amid the current conflict in the Nyaung Gyo area of Padaung Township, located in the Bago Region, an AA commando team unexpectedly launched an assault on a military convoy, leading to the casualties of more than a dozen soldiers, among whom was Colonel Han Lin Aung. This was confirmed by U Khaing Thukha, the spokesperson for the AA, to the Narinjara News Agency.
"This incident is true. I can verify it," stated U Khaing Thukha.
On January 4, around 9 am, in the area between the Point 666 Hill outpost and KaPaSa (defense industry factory) 16 located in Nyaung Gyo, Padaung Township, U Khaing Thukha reported that a column of the Arakan Army commando launched an assault on a military unit stationed roughly 5,500 meters west of Mathon village in Pan Daung Township, within the Bago Region adjacent to Arakan (Rakhine) State.
The column that was targeted included more than 100 soldiers under the leadership of a commander with the rank of colonel from the 10th Battalion, which is stationed in Kalay.
A representative from the army's CDM officer confirmed that Colonel Han Lin Aung, commander of the 10th MOC (military operations command), along with about 10 soldiers, lost their lives during an assault by the Arakan Army (AA) on a military column in the Nyaung Gyo area of Padaung Township, located on the Rakhine-Bago border.
The late Colonel Han Lin Aung (DSA-43) was promoted to the position of commander of the 10th MOC from commander of the Strategic Command Base located in Kawthaung last October.
The battalion is actively engaging in the Nyaung Gyo area to prevent AA attacks from reaching the Padaung area, where defense industry factories (KaPaSas) are situated. This battalion has received additional support from the battalion stationed at SsKaKha-10 (10th MOC) in Kalemyo.
A source present at the location reported that over twelve soldiers, along with the body of the colonel, were seized.
"We seized several corpses and ammunition. A colonel-rank commander of the SaKaKha (Military Operations Command MOC) has been killed. We also discovered the bodies of sergeants. The fighting lasted for about thirty minutes. We successfully withdrew without sustaining any injuries," he stated.
As Point 666 Hill, encircled by the Arakan Army, is facing shortages of food and ammunition, the junta army made efforts to deliver supplies to the location and subsequently engaged in frequent clashes near Point 666.
Furthermore, it has been reported that the soldiers at Point 666 are fleeing every day because of insufficient food supplies.
