Young Civilian Wounded in Myanmar Junta Airstrike on Thandwe Village

A young civilian was injured following an aerial bombardment by Myanmar military junta forces on Oemye Village in southern Arakan State's Thandwe Township on September 18, 2026.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Ko Khant Min Thu, a resident of Oemye Village.

Local reports indicate that at approximately 11:00 AM, three military junta fighter jets carried out an attack, dropping 11 bombs across Thandwe Township. The explosives detonated in fields and mountain ranges near Thit Ngut To and Kyay Pin villages, as well as areas surrounding Oemye Village. Ko Khant Min Thu sustained shrapnel wounds while near one of the blast sites.

Escalating Aerial Campaigns in Thandwe

The bombardment is part of an intensifying pattern of aerial assaults targeting the township. Earlier this month, on September 7 at around 10:27 AM, a junta jet fighter conducted two bombing runs directly on Thandwe town.

The attack resulted in the immediate death of an 83-year-old civilian, Daw Than Than Kywal, in Ward No. 8. Three others—Ma Mo Mo Myint Aung (28), Daw Aye Aye Kywal (66), and Ko Yan Naung Htet (28)—sustained injuries, and eight residential homes were destroyed.

Prior to that, during the afternoon of September 6, the military launched an air raid on Kyauk Gyi and Sapar Gyi villages. While no civilian casualties were reported from the September 6 strike, eight houses were completely leveled by the explosions.

Local residents continue to voice deep anxieties as the military regime increasingly relies on heavy air power against non-military civilian areas across the region.
