Two local men died of sudden cardiac arrest and another was injured following Myanmar military junta airstrikes on Taungup, a town in the southern part of Arakan State, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
According to a local resident, junta fighter jets launched an aerial bombardment at approximately 9:30 a.m. targeting former military bases surrounding the town, which are now under the control of the Arakan Army (AA).
The targeted areas included the former headquarters of the Military Operations Command No. 5 (MOC-5), Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 346, and LIB 544.
Residents reported that the sheer force and sudden shock of the heavy bombing caused two nearby villagers to suffer fatal heart attacks. The deceased have been identified as U Zaw Khin Oo, 52, and U Hla Sein, both from Taungup town.
In addition to the fatalities, a 31-year-old resident of Phon Nyo village, identified as U Maung Khing, sustained shrapnel wounds to his right thigh during the airstrikes.
This attack follows a similar deadly incident last month on September 11, when junta forces conducted an aerial bombardment near Wart Thit village in Taungup Township, killing 60-year-old U Tin Maung and injuring 67-year-old U Myint Shwe.
