The National Unity Government (NUG), an interim administration representing lawmakers ousted in the 2021 coup, and the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), an advisory body to the NUG, will be dissolved and form a transitional administration once a new constitution is adopted, members of the NUCC stated at a press conference in Mae Sot, Thailand, on Sunday.

“Once the transitional constitution is adopted, we’ll form a transitional government,” Toe Kyaw Hlaing, an NUCC spokesperson, told the media. He added that this is in line with the Federal Democracy Charter, adopted by the NUCC on March 31, 2021. It was later validated and ratified by the First People’s Assembly held Jan. 27-29, 2022.

The charter aims to eradicate dictatorship, abolish the military-drafted 2008 Constitution, build a federal democratic union, and organize a new transitional government for the people of Myanmar.

The NUCC was established by 33 resistance groups on March 8, 2021 to build an inclusive federal democratic union in Myanmar. The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), a group of lawmakers elected in 2020 but ousted in the military coup on Feb. 1, 2021, told DVB that the NUCC has temporarily suspended it from meetings since November due to “minor internal disputes.”
