The airstrike on a Rakhine POW camp that killed 116 regime soldiers—including a Brigadier General and several majors—was a deliberate attack on its own troops by the Myanmar military, according to former regime Brigadier General Thaung Tun, who survived the March 8 assault.
A fleet of four fighter jets and four Y-12 aircraft bombarded the Arakan Army (AA)-run facility in Dar Lat Chaung for three and a half hours from 11 am on Sunday, the AA said. The barrage also killed an unspecified number of civilian prisoners and left 32 injured.
Brig-Gen Thaung Tun—former deputy commander of Western Command based in Ann—told Rakhine media outlet One Nation News
