The first phase of Myanmar’s election has been completed under tight security.
The election has been widely criticized by international observers and local civil society groups, who argue that it lacks transparency and credibility. Many believe that this so-called transition to a civilian regime is merely a façade designed to legitimize continued military dominance, rather than a genuine move toward democracy.
It is a repeat of the same old game we saw in 2010, but this time it is more brutal, amid airstrikes and civil war. Resistance and revolutionary forces, despite their efforts, have not been able to topple the regime.
