Even as the military regime’s airstrikes and heavy-weapons attacks on civilians grow more severe, Myanmar’s people show no sign of losing their commitment to ending military rule. On 14 September, resistance forces’ counterattacks, public protest movements and international attention to the crisis were all prominent, even as the humanitarian and security toll of the conflict continued to mount.

Military Developments, Fighting and Air Attacks

In Sagaing Region, the Linn Yone Nyi Naung Guerrilla Force said it carried out a mine attack on a military convoy travelling from the Northwestern Command in Monywa toward the 33rd Light Infantry Division and later fired an 80 mm weapon at troops lying in ambush. The group claimed that more than 20 military personnel were killed. A civilian man working in a nearby field was reportedly killed and another injured when the military returned fire.

In Rakhine State, the Myanmar military carried out three airstrikes on Ponnagyun on 13 September using a jet fighter, killing one woman and one man and injuring three others, according to the Arakan Army (AA).

In Kachin State, a military vessel travelling downstream from Bhamo was attacked by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied forces and reportedly sank on the morning of 14 September in the second defile of the Ayeyarwady River near Nat Myet Hna Taung.

In Tanintharyi Region, resistance forces have repeatedly intercepted and attacked military troops along the Thung Kha–Maw Taung route leading to Maw Taung, resulting in frequent clashes during September.

Public Movements, Protests and Community Developments

A “Silent Message” photo exhibition was held in Mae Sot on the Thai–Myanmar border, presenting the lives, suffering and voices of Arakan people. The event also featured traditional Rakhine cultural programmes.

In Pantaw village, Maubin Township, Ayeyarwady Region, the body of an 11-year-old Grade 5 student who disappeared after leaving tuition classes was found in a field. Her earrings were reportedly missing.

Heavy rain and strong winds in Yangon caused large trees to fall onto roads and vehicles in Kamayut, Kyimyindaing, Yankin and Mayangone townships, leading to road blockages and property damage.

A fire broke out at BAR4U beer shop on Sanchaung Road in Sanchaung Township, Yangon, on the night of 13 September. Two men were killed and four shops were destroyed by the fire.

Along the Kalay–Tamu road in Sagaing Region, more than 40 military checkpoints have reportedly increased travel time from the previous two to three hours to nearly six hours, even though transport fares have fallen to around 100,000 kyat.

Statements by Resistance Leaders

NUG Minister of Defence Yee Mon said that resisting the military’s forced conscription programme is an important task for the revolution and urged the public and young people to participate.

At the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, women human rights defenders are working to draw attention to Myanmar’s humanitarian crisis and to support Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun’s continued representation of Myanmar amid his credentials challenge.

Law Enforcement and Criminal Cases

In Phyu, Bago Region, eight people allegedly involved in illegal online football betting and five people involved in card gambling were arrested during raids on 13 September.

In Yangon and Pyin Oo Lwin, alleged senior agents linked to online gambling operations including Ibet 789, identified as Ma Phyo Thin Gyi, Ma Hnin Wut Yee Kyaw and Ko Kyaw Soe Linn were arrested, with authorities reportedly seizing phones, laptops and vehicles.

Regional and International Developments

In Bangkok’s Prawet district, police and the Thai FDA raided an unlicensed nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) filling facility, seizing a large number of gas cylinders and around 72 tonnes of gas.

The second Bangkok International Film Festival opened at ICONSIAM on 13 September, with 155 films from 22 countries scheduled for screening.

Jared Kushner, an envoy of US President Donald Trump, said that the dispute over control of the Donbas region remains unresolved in efforts to end the Russia–Ukraine war, and that Ukraine is not prepared to make concessions.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Chinese entities allegedly provided Iran with satellite imagery of a US military base in Jordan before the 17 July attack on the base that killed three US troops.

Japanese adult-film actress Hana Kuraki, aged 25, was found dead in the apartment of a bar owner in Tokyo’s Kabukicho district.

In Libya, authorities seized tens of thousands of Ecstasy tablets bearing the image of former leader Muammar Gaddafi.

A video of Mongolian President Khurelsukh bench-pressing a 100-kilogram weight 20 times during a visit to a military unit has gone viral on social media.

A new report says opportunities for German companies operating in China to cooperate with Chinese firms are becoming increasingly restricted.

Assessment

According to 14 September’s developments, the military regime, having suffered setbacks on the battlefield in areas including Sagaing and Rakhine, continued airstrikes against civilians and non-military targets. At the same time, resistance forces’ counterattacks and the pressures of a breakdown in rule of law have not diminished the public’s revolutionary spirit or its silent defiance, which remained strong through the month of September.
