Junta Drone and Artillery Strike Kills Civilian in Eastern Myanmar

A 40-year-old man was killed on Monday when Myanmar military forces targeted a village in Nanmehkhon Township—located along the border of Shan and Karenni (Kayah) states—with suicide drones and heavy artillery, according to residents.

The attack occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 near a village fuel station. Junta forces deployed two suicide drones and fired a heavy artillery shell without prior aerial reconnaissance, witnesses said.

The victim sustained fatal injuries to his head and arm.

The strike comes amid heightened safety warnings along the Shan-Karenni border.

The Mobye People’s Defense Force (PDF) recently urged civilians to avoid traveling on roads connecting western Mobye and Nanmehkhon due to frequent, heavy clashes between resistance forces and regime troops in the area.

Military aerial and drone bombardments have escalated sharply across Karenni State this month.

At least 10 civilians, including young children, have been killed by junta airstrikes in September across Nanmehkhon, Hpasaung, and Shadaw townships.
