Military junta battalions based in Sittwe are launching continuous heavy weapon strikes toward Ponnagyun Township, targeting the vicinity of Kuon Taung village, according to local residents.

Ponnagyun is currently under the control of the Arakan Army (AA).

"They began firing continuously at 6:30 AM, and it lasted until around 8:00 AM," a local resident told Narinjara at 9:45 AM today. "We keep hearing shots fired in pairs. Right now, they are shelling every five to ten minutes. The blasts can be heard clearly from Ponnagyun town and the surrounding areas."

The resident added that gunfire continues to echo across the region, though specific details regarding casualties or property damage remain unconfirmed.

The shelling is believed to originate from the junta's Padalik-based battalions in Sittwe. Witnesses report that the sounds of the explosions are echoing from the Kon Dan Kying Chaung and Kuon Taung, close to Sittwe Township.

Military tensions between the Myanmar Army and the Arakan Army remain severe, with both sides actively exchanging heavy artillery fire.

Of the 17 townships in Rakhine State, 14 are now fully occupied and controlled by the Arakan Army. Only three—Sittwe, Kyaukphyu, and Manaung—remain under the control of the military junta.
