At least seven civilians, including several Muslim children, were injured early Friday morning during a series of nighttime airstrikes launched by the Myanmar military junta in Rakhine State’s Kyauktaw Township.

The aerial bombardment occurred between 2:00 AM and 2:45 AM on September 25, according to local sources. A military Y-12 transport aircraft reportedly dropped nearly 30 bombs in rapid succession, targeting Pyidawtha Ward, Paik Thei village, and Nidin village.

Local officials identified the injured victims, who include both Rohingya Muslim and ethnic Rakhine residents. Among the five injured Muslim villagers are U Abu Kalit, 35, from Paik Thei, as well as Bibi Sania, 1; Bibi Sakara, 8; Saw Lime, 18; Rohima Katu, 37; and Jaberi, 43, all from Nidin village.

The two injured Rakhine residents were identified as U Sein Than, 55, and Daw Shwe Yi, 54, from Pyidawtha Ward’s 9th Street. Daw Shwe Yi is reported to be in critical condition after sustaining severe shrapnel wounds to her abdomen.

The blasts also caused widespread destruction, damaging or completely destroying numerous civilian homes across Pyidawtha, PC Paik Thei, Wa Kin, and Done Yat villages.

Military analysts report that the junta has intensified its use of airstrikes and heavy artillery against non-combatant populations following significant battlefield setbacks.

The military launched a major offensive in neighboring Ponnagyun Township on September 4 with a force of over 1,000 troops, but suffered heavy casualties during fierce clashes with the Arakan Army (AA).

The latest attack in Kyauktaw marks an escalation in targeting communities inhabited by the local Muslim population. It follows a similar aerial assault on Thursday evening, September 24, when junta aircraft bombed Zee Koing village in Rathedaung Township.
