Over 10 Killed and Injured, Including Children, in Military Bombing of Rathedaung
At least three people were killed and no fewer than 12 others were injured after the junta military launched an airstrike using a Y-12 aircraft on Rathedaung Town and nearby villages in Arakan State this morning, October 3, according to local residents.
Between 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM today, a Y-12 aircraft dropped at least 20 bombs targeting Rathedaung Town and adjacent villages.
The bombs exploded in several locations, including Strand Road, Ah Shey Taung Ward, Taung Yin Tan Ward in Rathedaung Town, Pyar Chaung Gyi Village near Rathedaung Bridge, Pyin Khaung Village across the river, and Angumaw Village on the Mayu waterfront.
Initial reports confirm that 15-year-old Ma Moe Moe Nwe and 13-year-old Ma Myo Myat Khaing from Rathedaung Town were killed in the bombing.
Similarly, 70-year-old U Aung Kyaw Tha died in Pyar Chaung Gyi Village, where residential homes were also destroyed.
The junta military also bombed Angumaw Village in Rathedaung Township, located directly across the river from Sittwe's Ye Chan Pyin.
That attack injured 24-year-old Ma Khin Hmone Yar Swe, 45-year-old U Phyu Thee, and 45-year-old U Thein Hla.
Heavy fighting is currently ongoing along the Rathedaung-Sittwe border. Just a few days prior, the military bombed Ku Taung Village on Moe Sei Island in Rathedaung Township, killing one person and injuring another.
The military junta’s relentless air attacks on civilian areas across Arakha State are being widely condemned as blatant war crimes.
On October 1, an airstrike near Bodhikone Market in Ward No. 6, Thandwe Town, injured two residents. On October 2, an attack on Aung Phyu Pyin Village, Ponnagyun Township, left three local civilians injured.
Due to these daily, continuous airstrikes by the military junta, civilian casualties in Arakan State continue to escalate.
Despite formal condemnations from the international community, including top United Nations human rights officials, regarding the mass casualties among civilians, the military junta continues to commit war crimes with impunity.
