NUG vows legal action against prison staff involved in torture and deaths of political prisoners

The National Unity Government (NUG) has pledged to pursue legal action against PrisonsDepartment personnel who are complicit in the torture and deaths of political prisoners held inmilitary junta-run prisons across Myanmar.

Speaking during a public and international broadcast on 29 July, U Nay Phone Latt, spokesperson forthe NUG Union Prime Minister’s Office, said that the NUG has collected personal information onthousands of prison employees who assisted the junta in carrying out abuses against detainees.

Legal action will be taken against them in accordance with the law, depending on the extent of theirinvolvement.
