Myanmar’s military regime convened its first post-coup Lower House session on Monday following the conclusion of its widely rejected three-phase election in late January.
The incomplete poll filled only 263 of the 440 seats in the lower house, with another 110 reserved for military appointees.
The military’s proxy Union Solidarity and Development Party dominates with 231 seats, a walkover capped by the unopposed election of its chairman—longtime military enforcer and former brigadier general Khin Yi—as new house speaker.
