Arakan (Rakhine) State recorded the highest number of civilian casualties and civilian-targeted airstrikes in Myanmar from September 25 to October 1, according to a recent report by Nyan Lynn Thit Analytica (NLTA).
During this seven-day period, the NLTA documented 52 civilians killed and 87 injured in Arakan State alone, marking the highest casualty count among the country's states and regions. Sagaing Division recorded the second-highest toll, with 15 deaths and 37 injuries.
Nationwide, at least 34 military engagements occurred across 19 townships, with Arakan State experiencing the highest frequency at eight recorded incidents. The NLTA noted that regular clashes and contact fighting made up the majority of these engagements.
Among targeted attacks on civilians, airstrikes by the military junta were the most frequent. The NLTA tracked at least 49 airstrikes across 24 townships in seven states and regions, resulting in 65 civilian deaths and 124 injuries nationwide. Arakan State bore the brunt of these aerial assaults, experiencing 22 separate civilian-targeted airstrikes.
The single deadliest incident during this window was a military airstrike on the Indian Market in Kyauktaw Township on September 28. The NLTA confirmed that 50 civilians were killed and 57 others were injured in that attack alone.
This latest wave follows a trend of continuous aerial bombardments across Arakan State. The region also topped the list for airstrikes targeting both military objectives and civilians during the preceding week, from September 18 to 24.
In total, the NLTA recorded at least 126 nationwide incidents between September 25 and October 1, comprising 34 military campaigns and 92 targeted attacks on civilians. The data was compiled using reports from 43 media outlets alongside statements from revolutionary organizations.
However, the NLTA cautioned that the actual figures on the ground are likely higher, as unconfirmed incidents and casualties were excluded from the report.
