Naypyidaw ‘destroys’ 2020 election-related materials


Regime staff told DVB that they were ordered by the General Administration Department, which is under the Ministry of Home Affairs, to burn documents from the 2020 elections, and related data, in Yangon’s Dagon Seikkan Township on Wednesday.


One staff member told DVB on the condition of anonymity that Dagon Seikkan Township administrators and members of the regime’s Union Election Commission (UEC) burnt paper documents containing 2020 election data on Feb. 4. He said that this was also done in Yangon’s East, South, and North Dagon townships on the same day.


A source inside the Insein District administration in Yangon Region told DVB on the condition of anonymity that Naypyidaw established a 14-member committee tasked with “erasing 2020 election results and records, and performances of the National League for Democracy (NLD) government,” following the end of the 2025-26 elections on Jan. 25.
