At this time in 2021, Myanmar was reeling from horrific reports of military and security forces massacring citizens for demanding the release of their elected leaders and the restoration of democracy.
Each day brought fresh news of protesters shot and killed, detainees tortured to death. The military’s post-coup terror campaign spared no one—not even children playing outside their homes or sitting in their parents’ laps.
Five years later, the same individuals who led and enabled that bloody, illegitimate power grab have entered the country’s parliament—the very place that once held the hopes and dreams of citizens who cast their votes freely.
