Political prisoners from an unnamed prison, kept anonymous for security reasons, have urged anti-military dictatorship Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) to collaborate with the Steering Council for the Emergence of a Federal Democratic Union (SCEF).

Mizzima has received a handwritten statement containing their stance and six key recommendations regarding the SCEF.

“We suggest that ethnic armed revolutionary organizations implement their policies in cooperation with the SCEF, based on the Panglong Spirit, which is the principle of peaceful coexistence,” the statement said.

The political prisoners also expressed their support and respect for the ethnic armed revolutionary groups that have been fighting through successive eras for national equality, self-determination, and democracy.

“For the time being, it is not convenient to mention the name of the prison for security reasons. However, they said they will take responsibility and reveal it in the future that they released these statements,” a source close to the prison who delivered the letter told Mizzima.

The source added that the political prisoners decided not to disclose the name of the prison because they fear not only torture by the authorities if discovered, but even more so, the complete cut off of external news and information they are currently receiving.

The political prisoners stated that they believe the SCEF is the best solution to end the military dictatorship, achieve national unity, and establish a federal democratic union. They expressed full support for the efforts of the SCEF, which is struggling with all its physical and mental capacity to achieve the ultimate victory of Myanmar’s Spring Revolution.

They also urged local armed groups (local PDFs) resisting the military dictatorship to cooperate with the SCEF to achieve the ultimate goal of the entire Myanmar population.

Furthermore, they recommended prioritizing the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) to strengthen and consolidate democratic culture in areas controlled by revolutionary forces.

They also urged revolutionary organizations to formulate and implement effective protective policies against forced conscription, which they described as the defensive lifeblood of the military dictatorship.

Believing that the final outcome of the revolution depends on the public, the political prisoners in jail urged the citizens – who have consistently opposed the military coup – to continue supporting the revolutionary struggle led by the SCEF, especially as the current revolutionary landscape shows they are drawing closer to their goal.

The SCEF was formed on 30 March 2026, by a coalition of revolutionary forces and ethnic armed organizations, including the National Unity Government (NUG), the Karen National Union (KNU), the Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO), and the Chin National Front (CNF) etc., to coordinate and lead the transition process and the building of a new federal democratic union in Myanmar.
