Myanmar police chief Lt Gen Win Zaw Moe is arrested under the online gambling fraud seemingly due to continuous pressure from China.

He was arrested by the military commission, reported New Day Myanmar , citing a military source on 3 March.

The arrest was materialized following the dictation of Beijing for his involvement in the online scam, added the source.

He went missing from public views after attending the 43rd ASEAN police chiefs conference in Bangkok of Thailand during November 2025.

Win Zaw Moe was appointed as Myanmar police chief on 5 August 2024.

The military council has not yet issued any statement over the arrest. So Narinjara News can not confirm it immediately.

After the coup, a number of police chiefs including Lt Gen Aung Win Oo, Lt Gen Than Hlaing, Lt Gen Ni Lin Aung, major general Zin Min Htet and brigadier general (retired) Win Zaw Moe were either arrested or transferred.

The Burmese junta is seemingly carrying out the crackdown on those accused at the behest of China.

Meanwhile, the Chinese authorities on 29 January 2026 executed 11 members of a prominent Myanmar-based crime family, identified as the Ming family, following their involvement in the telecom scams, illegal gambling and murders of Chinese citizens.
