Myanmar Military Airstrikes Kill Khami Minority Woman, Injure Five in Buthidaung

A 64-year-old Khami minority woman was killed and five others, including two children, were severely injured in an indiscriminate airstrike launched by the Myanmar Air Force in the northeast of Buthidaung Township, 80 miles north of State capital Sittwe.

The deceased was identified as Daw Yaw Tha May (64) from Tara Gu Khami village, Buthidaung Township.

The injured were Maung Nay Zaw Lin (3), Maung Aung Aung Naing (3), Ma Sandar May (18), Ko Maung Hla Kyaw (23), and U Kyaw Tha (46) from Sin Phyu Taung village, Buthidaung Township.

The bombardment occurred on July 3, 2026, near Wa Nak Yon, an ethnic Rakhine village in Buthidaung Township. Around 11:45 a.m., three jet fighters and a Y-12 aircraft dropped over 50 bombs on residential areas.

Locals reported that Daw Yaw Tha May died from a direct bomb impact, while the five others sustained serious injuries.

A local resident stated, "Wa Nak Yon is located above Sai Din, near Pinnai Gyi and a few other local settlements. Tara Gu is situated along Kyaw Lam and is quite far from Wa Nak Yon. Therefore, the individuals recently injured must be from Wa Nak Yon village."

The injured victims are currently receiving emergency medical treatment, with the most severely wounded reported to be in critical condition.

In a separate incident on July 1 at approximately 10 a.m., an armed group reportedly bombed the former military operation headquarters (Sakakha 15) in Buthidaung Township.

This attack damaged several nearby homes and injured three individuals from local Muslim villages: a 50-year-old man and two 12-year-old children, one of whom is a third-grade student.
