Mother and Daughter Killed by Military Artillery Fire in Rathedaung

A mother and daughter were killed instantly today after the military regime forces based in Sittwe fired heavy artillery at Muse Island in Rathedaung Township.

The victims have been identified as 72-year-old Daw Aye Nu and her 42-year-old daughter, Daw Ma Shwe Tin.

A local resident told Narinjara that Artillery Battalion 344, stationed along Kywi Te Road in Sittwe, deliberately shelled a residential area at approximately 10:00 AM.

"They fired from the battalions located along the Kywi Tae road, and it is understood that Battalion 344 was responsible," the resident said. "One shell landed directly near Daw Aye Nu's house, and both the mother and daughter were killed by shrapnel."

The source added that the morning artillery barrage was accompanied by a wave of military airstrikes targeting Sittwe, Ponnagyun, and Rathedaung townships throughout the day.

"At 7:00 AM, junta jet fighters attacked the Warbo area in Sittwe and Khamaungtaw village in Ponnagyun. They returned to strike the same locations after 5:00 PM," the resident reported. "By 6:00 PM, aerial bombings also targeted Zee Koing village on Muse Island in Rathedaung, close to where the morning artillery shells had landed."

Local sources report that the military junta has intensified its airstrikes on civilian populations following severe territorial defeats during "Operation 4926."

"Daily bombings are occurring across Ponnagyun, Sittwe, Rathedaung, Kyaukphyu, and Thandwe. Residents need to exercise extreme caution as further airstrikes are highly likely," the source warned.

The aerial campaign continued into Sunday evening. Around 7:00 PM, two jet fighters reportedly dropped bombs near Kraung Kho Chaung and Awa Taung villages in Kyaukphyu Township, where fierce clashes between local resistance forces and the military are ongoing.
