Regime chief Min Aung Hlaing has transferred a senior general from a civilian post back to a military role, in what observers say is a bid to consolidate loyalty within the military as he prepares to assume the presidency in the new government to be formed in April.
Home Affairs Minister Lieutenant General Tun Tun Naung was reassigned to military duties as per an order issued Tuesday by the Office of the National Defense and Security Council (NDSC).
Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung was appointed home affairs minister in January 2025, following a stint as Minister for Border Affairs. He is a close associate of Min Aung Hlaing.
