A coalition of Arakan Army and resistance forces has captured a strategically important junta military outpost near the Arakan mountain range in Ayeyarwady Region, local military sources reported Tuesday.

The Point 188 hilltop camp was seized during an offensive in the third week of June, with resistance forces reportedly capturing weapons, ammunition, Starlink communication equipment, and electronic signal jamming devices from the site.

"The outpost holds significant strategic value for the area," a local source monitoring the operation said. "Joint forces fully secured the position about one week ago."

The hilltop position serves as a key observation point overlooking the Gwa-Ngathainggyaung route at the base of the Arakan mountains and provides strategic support for the junta's Artillery Battalion No. 344 based in Yekyi Township.

Arakan Army forces and allied groups began operations near the artillery base in mid-May. Amid increasing military pressure, junta commanders reportedly relocated family members of military personnel from the artillery compound to the headquarters of the Southwest Regional Military Command.

"The loss of this high-ground position has significantly affected the junta's operational capability," a military analyst said. "It restricts routes used by junta forces attempting to launch counter-offensives toward Gwa Township and places the nearby artillery base within range of resistance weapons."

The offensive has also forced junta troops to withdraw from several key guard posts and smaller military positions across Yekyi and Laymyethna townships.

Resistance forces have additionally gained control of a section of the Pathein-Monywa highway in Laymyethna Township.

Facing further territorial losses, the military junta is establishing secondary defensive positions near the captured areas and has deployed additional troops across Yekyi, Laymyethna, and Thabaung townships to prevent further advances.
