Myanmar junta officers ordered homes torched, looted: deserters

Writer: Saw Kyaw OoSaw Kyaw Oo

Deserters from the Myanmar junta’s front-line forces have accused senior officers of ordering them to loot and torch civilian homes and kill cattle for food, says a report.

Pyae Sone, who deserted recently and is in hiding said officers freely stole food from villagers, slaughtered cattle, and ordered soldiers to burn down homes, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported on Feb. 10.

“Since we lacked sufficient supplies, we were ordered to seize food. The junta officers reinforced their motto: ‘Cattle for food, homes for firewood’,” said Sone who fled his post last month.
