Myanmar junta chief awards top honorary medals to business tycoons linked to junta

Myanmar junta leader Min Aung Hlaing has bestowed honorary service medals on several businessmen, including Shwe Byain Phyu Group chairman U Thein Win Zaw, a figure linked to the Military Commission, the commission announced on November 14.
The Military Commission said that U Thein Win Zaw, chairman of Shwe Byain Phyu Group and Atom Myanmar Limited; U Ohn Kyaw, chairman of Max Myanmar Group of Companies; U Kyaw Win, chairman of Shwe Than Lwin Company and a close associate of the commission; A Bank chairman U Ar Yu; and UAB Bank Foundation chairman U Nay Aung have received the Excellent Performance for Social Field (First Class), a top-tier honourary service award.
Other medal recipients include Dr. Saw Nay Nwe, vice chairman of the Pacific AA Foundation; U Than Htike San, managing director of the Amarapura Urban Development Project; and Daw Han Su Khaing, a director of Myanmar Apex Bank.
In addition, the Military Commission awarded the Excellent Performance for Social Field (Second Class) to U Ye Min Aung, chairman of the Myanmar Rice Federation; U Aye Win, chairman of the Union of Myanmar Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI); U Thaung Kyaing, chairman of the Asia World Foundation; and U Aung Moe Kyaw, chairman of Grand Royal Group International Company Limited and a subsidiary of Thai Beverage Company Limited.
