Myanmar Junta Airstrike on IDP Shelter Injures Three Civilians
A military regime jet fighter bombed an internally displaced persons (IDP) shelter in Ponnagyun Township, Arakan (Rakhine) State, early on October 2, injuring three civilians and damaging several homes.
The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. when bombs exploded near a motorcycle repair workshop along the Kyauktaw-Ponnagyun Road at the entrance to Aungphyupyin Village.
Local sources reported that the blast severely wounded two displaced persons and one local resident.
Among the casualties were 30-year-old Daw Khin Wai Soe, an IDP from Ponnagyun Town who suffered a severe fracture to her right arm, and 18-year-old Maung Kyaw Moe Lwin, an IDP from Kyawzan Village who sustained shrapnel wounds to both thighs.
A resident of Aungphyupyin Village, 17-year-old Ko Aung Min, suffered injuries to his abdomen and right knee, according to a local humanitarian aid worker.
"Junta jet fighters circled all night and dropped bombs on Aungphyupyin Village," a local resident said. "IDPs in this area face grave danger, and some are temporarily fleeing to safer locations."
The late-night bombing follows a broader surge in aerial operations across Arakan State.
On October 1, military aircraft targeted a monastery near Thakyarset Village in Kyauktaw Township, as well as locations in Rathedaung, Thandwe, Werathani, and Kyaukphyu townships, leaving one civilian dead and over ten injured within a 24-hour window.
The renewed strikes come shortly after a major September 28 bombing on Kyauktaw's India Market and Kissapanadi Bridge area, which killed 50 civilians and wounded 57 others.
