Myanmar Air Force Bombs Monastery in Mrauk-U; Over 13 Injured

MRAUKU – The Myanmar Air Force carried out two separate airstrikes on a monastery in Kyauk Si Pyin, a Mro ethnic village in Rakhine State’s Mrauk-U Township, on Sunday. The attacks left three monks and at least 10 civilians injured.

The first strike occurred around 10:00 AM, when military aircraft dropped two 500-pound bombs near the village. At 12:30 PM, a jet fighter returned to strike the village monastery directly with two additional 500-pound bombs.

Ko Wai Hin Aung, a writer and relief worker, confirmed the casualties to Narinjara. "The second strike hit the monastery directly, destroying it completely," he said. "Thirteen people were injured in total—three monks, eight men, and two women."

The bombardment also killed five cows and injured another.

The assault was part of a broader aerial campaign on Sunday. At approximately 10:30 AM, three jet fighters targeted Ponnagyunt, dropping 11 bombs of varying weights (200lb and 300lb).

"Ponnagyunt is currently home to many displaced people," Ko Wai Hin Aung added. "The bombs hit residential areas, damaging several homes, a school, and the local power plant."

Local residents report that the military council, facing significant losses on the ground, has intensified its targeting of non-combatant sites. Civilians increasingly face strikes from land, sea, and air directed at hospitals, markets, schools, and religious buildings.
