The Myanmar military regime, currently grappling with a nationwide armed conflict, has executed a major leadership reshuffle spanning from regional commanders to the Minister of Defense.

Myanmar media outlets report that the former Defense Minister, Air Force General Tun Aung, has been removed from his post and replaced by Lieutenant General Yar Pyae. The head of the military regime reportedly notified the Speaker of the Union Parliament regarding this nomination during a parliamentary session held on October 12.

Lieutenant General Yar Pyae currently serves as the Chairman of the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) under the military regime.

Throughout the 2021–2026 government term, he has also held roles as National Security Advisor and Union Minister for the Union Government Office, Home Affairs, and Border Affairs. Reports indicate he previously served as the Minister for Ethnic Affairs as well.

In the civilian administration, Dr. Ko Ko Lwin has been appointed to replace Dr. Soe Win as the Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement. Dr. Soe Win has been reassigned to serve as the Union Minister for Health.

The military command structure also saw several high-level transfers.

Major General Than Htike, the Chief of Military Security Affairs, was reassigned as the Chief of Joint Staff. He was replaced by Pyi Sone Lin, the former Chief of Training. Moving into the training role, Major General Tin Min Latt left his post as Commander of the Yangon Command to become the new Chief of Military Training.

Consequently, Brigadier General Aung Htay transferred from the Central Command to take over the Yangon Command. His former position at the Central Command was filled by Brigadier General Aung Ko Naing, the previous Commandant of the Defence Services Academy (DSA). The vacancy at the DSA was then filled by the Commander of the No. 55 Light Infantry Division, who received a promotion to Commandant.

Additionally, Brigadier General Kyaw Naing Oo transferred from the Eastern Command to serve as Commander of the Triangle Region Command. He succeeds Major General Soe Myat Htut, who was promoted to Commander of Special Operations Bureau No. 2 under the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army).
