Malaysia Silent on Poll Monitoring Despite Myanmar Regime’s Claim

ree

Despite the Myanmar regime’s claim last week that Malaysia would send a team to monitor to its upcoming election, Malaysia’s foreign minister made no mention of the plan, stating only that its Election Commission had received an invitation to send observers.

Mohamad Hassan visited the regime’s administrative capital Naypyitaw last Thursday, meeting with coup leader and self-proclaimed acting president Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, along with Prime Minister Nyo Saw and Foreign Affairs minister Than Swe.

On Friday, junta channels announced in both English and Burmese that Malaysia’s foreign minister had expressed satisfaction with preparations for the multi-party election and pledged ASEAN cooperation to make it as inclusive as possible.
