Making ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus Work: Thailand as a Bridge or a Bypass?

The Five-Point Consensus (5PC) was collectively adopted at the emergency ASEAN Summit in Jakarta in April 2021 to restore stability through peaceful resolution following Myanmar’s 2021 coup. However, five years later, Myanmar’s military junta has failed to implement the commitments it accepted under the 5PC. Despite repeated reaffirmations by ASEAN, the consensus remains largely unimplemented while Myanmar’s conflict continues to deepen.

The central question is no longer whether the 5PC remains relevant, but whether ASEAN has developed the institutional architecture necessary to make it work.
