The Karen National Union (KNU) has issued a warning against the establishment of gambling businesses and the harbouring of foreign nationals fleeing online scam operations in Kyondoe Township, Dooplaya District, amid escalating clashes between the Myanmar junta army and Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces.
In a statement, the KNU said the junta’s Military Commission has been disguising its activities as part of an anti–online fraud campaign in the border area while simultaneously relocating foreigners who escaped from scam operations through various means.
The KNU’s Kyondoe Township Executive Committee cautioned local residents not to use local routes for the transport or sheltering of such foreign nationals. It also strictly prohibited the opening of gambling establishments in the township.
The group emphasized that the situation in Kyondoe Township remains tense as the junta continues to launch airstrikes and targeted attacks on civilians. Due to the unstable conditions, the KNU urged the public to avoid travel between 8 pm and 6 am and to prepare bomb shelters for protection against potential attacks and human rights abuses.
The committee warned that anyone violating these regulations would face legal action under KNU laws.
