The Central Committee of the Karenni National Defence Force (KNDF) announced 22 July that it has restructured and merged its battalions into designated military regions.

According to the announcement, eight battalions formerly operating under Tactical Commands 4, 5, and 7 have been consolidated and redesignated as Battalions 5, 6, and 7, under Military Region 2.

Similarly, seven battalions under Tactical Commands 2 and 7 were merged and restructured into Battalions 8, 9, and 10 and regrouped under Military Region 3.

Furthermore, five battalions under Tactical Commands 3, 5, and 6 were consolidated and redesignated as Battalions 11, 12, and 14 and regrouped under Military Region 4.

The KNDF stated that these organizational reforms aim to build standardized, compact, and highly capable forces, elevate morale, ensure strict compliance with military discipline and laws, and ultimately establish a single, unified Karenni State defense force as desired by the public.

The newly restructured battalions will remain deployed in their respective operational areas within Karenni State to continue executing their military duties.

The KNDF previously established Military Region 1 “Alpha” in April 2026 and is currently in the process of reorganising the remaining military regions.
