Kim Aris seeks to meet his mother Aung San Suu Kyi following the death of her beloved dog

Aung San Suu Kyi’s son Kim Aris has remarked on the death of his mother’s dog, Taichito, calling for “proof of life” of his mother and the chance for him to meet her.

In a post on Facebook on 22 June, Aris has the following to say:

Taichito was more than a companion. He was a small piece of love I was able to place in my mother’s hands after one of the hardest separations of our lives.

In his own way, he lost her as I did. Like me, he did not know where she had been taken. Like me, he waited for her. Like me, he only wanted to see her again.

Now Taichito is gone too. And it breaks my heart that he never got to see her one last time, just as I still do not know when, or if, I will. He waited for her.

I still am.

If my mother is alive, let her family see her. Let her be free.
