The Karen National Union (KNU) and resistance allies captured two regime bases during Myanmar’s Thingyan celebrations, prompting the military to respond with airstrikes on civilian infrastructure.
One of the defeated regime bases was once overseen by junta chief-turned-president Min Aung Hlaing.
On April 12, fighters from the KNU, People Defense Forces (PDF) and All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) seized the Lay Kay military base in Mon State’s Bilin Township.
