Junta Offers Reward for Dr. Tayzar San, Two Others After Mandalay Protest

Myanmar’s military regime has offered cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of three prominent protest leaders—Dr. Tayzar San, Ko Nan Lin and Ko Khant Wai Phyo—who staged an anti-election rally near Zay Cho Market in downtown Mandalay last week, according to local residents.

Residents said authorities have promised to pay 20 million kyats (about US$9,520) to anyone who supplies information about the trio. A military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that rewards would be offered, but declined to specify the amount.

A former political prisoner in Mandalay told The Irrawaddy: “On Dec. 5, during routine household checks for overnight guests in Amarapura and Pyigyidagun, they told residents that anyone who provided information on Dr. Tayzar San would get 20 million kyats.”
