Junta Boss Orders ‘Smooth Transition’ From Poverty; Eyes Nuclear Rule; and More

That Myanmar has grown increasingly impoverished under Min Aung Hlaing’s military rule is a well-documented fact. Yet, ever eager to turn crisis into propaganda, the junta chief has formed a committee tasked with lifting the nation out of its Least Developed Country (LDC) status. Chaired by Min Aung Hlaing himself and packed with generals from his cabinet, the panel was officially established on August 15.
The move came as millions of people in Myanmar are displaced by conflict, with hunger and poverty spreading fast across the country under his dictatorship.
