Junta Airstrikes Hit Western Demoso Despite No Ongoing Clashes

Demoso Township, Karenni State —The Myanmar junta launched three consecutive airstrikes on the western side of Demoso Township on the night of December 7, at around 8 p.m., according to local residents.

“The jet came suddenly and dropped bombs right away. There was no time to take cover — it happened so fast,” a resident from western Demoso told Kantarawaddy Times.

After the airstrikes, the junta’s Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 102 near Ngwe Taung reportedly fired artillery shells, residents said.

Locals criticized the military for targeting populated civilian areas despite the absence of clashes in the vicinity.

“For us civilians, there is no sense of safety anymore. This is how they treat the public — we are suffering so much. How could they do this to ordinary people? It’s really heartbreaking. I even felt anger. We are all human beings. Why would they attack a place where displaced civilians are living, instead of an actual battlefield? It deeply affects us,” the resident added.

Houses and vehicles near the impact area were reportedly damaged by shrapnel, and residents — including internally displaced families — were left in fear and shock after the bombardment.
