Junta airstrikes on two Karenni State townships where there was no current fighting, Bawlakhe and Demoso, killed six people and injured a further 10, on 14 July 2025.
At around 2:00 pm on 14 July, junta aircraft dropped two 200-pound bombs on Mawchi Town in Bawlakhe Township. One fell on a residential area killing six civilians and injuring ten others, three of whom are in a serious condition. The other bomb hit an empty road and caused no casualties.
This was the eighth airstrike on Mawchi Town since the beginning of 2025.
A rescue worker from Mawchi Town said: “So far, we know that five women and one man have died. We've also heard that ten people were injured, but we can't confirm these numbers yet. We'll be able to provide accurate casualty figures after a more detailed assessment.”
