A military airstrike on Ku Taung village, located on Muse Island in Rakhine State's Rathedaung Township, left a husband dead and his wife injured last night.
The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old U Aung Tun Thein (also known as Du Gyi), while his injured wife has been identified as 41-year-old Daw Win Nu.
A local resident informed Narinjara that the military junta dropped two 500-pound bombs near Ku Taung village at around 10:00 PM yesterday, September 30.
"Two 500-pound bombs were dropped last night. The couple was struck by shrapnel, resulting in the husband's death and injuries to his wife. Several houses were also destroyed," the resident said.
The attack comes just two days after a devastating junta airstrike on the Kyauktaw market on September 28 killed 50 people.
Last night's aerial assault also targeted Ponnagyun, Pauktaw (Wirathani) and Rathedaung townships, both of which border Sittwe Township, where fighting between the military junta and the Arakan Army (AA) has recently intensified.
Reports indicate that the military deployed four fighter jets to strike the Ponnagyun and Pauktaw (Wirathani) areas.
An observer closely monitoring the conflict noted that intense clashes are currently underway in Sittwe Township. Facing heavy casualties, the military junta has resorted to launching massive aerial bombardments across Sittwe and its neighboring townships.
