Historic Yattara bell of Mrauk-U era unearthed by Arakan people’s revolutionary government

Mizzima

The Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government has successfully unearthed the “Yattara Bell,” a significant historic artifact from the Mrauk-U era that had eluded discovery by successive regimes for generations.

The Arakan Princess Media reported on 25 December that the bell – long sought by military dictators and intelligence agencies for its perceived spiritual and protective power was finally recovered through information provided by a local elder.

Cast during the reign of King Narapatigyi (1638–1645) of the Mrauk-U dynasty, the bronze bell is steeped in Rakhine legend. The term “Yattara” refers to a Burmese astrological ritual performed to avert misfortune, and tradition holds that the bell was commissioned as a supernatural defense mechanism – legend suggests that when struck, it would strike terror into the hearts of foreign invaders. The bell stands 86 cm in height with a base circumference of 207 cm and a body circumference of 160 cm.
