According to The Daily Sun on November 8, raw materials for producing heroin are being brought into Bangladesh from Myanmar.
It has been observed that both the raw materials required for heroin production and the poppy seeds utilized for opium cultivation are being brought into Bangladesh from Myanmar, leading to heightened concerns for the nation.
Heroin raw materials are coming into Bangladesh from Myanmar, acting as a passage to India, where they are manufactured into heroin in factories and subsequently trafficked back to Bangladesh.
The regional headquarters of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) has recently informed authorities about these concerning events, including the importation of opium poppy seeds used for growing.
These seeds are being brought into Bangladesh using misleading methods to evade detection by customs and other authorities. Reports of drug trafficking in Rohingya camps have led the government to implement more stringent monitoring strategies to address the drug trade effectively.
Humayun Kabir, the deputy director of the DNC Chittagong division, stated that the customs department is managing the confiscated poppy seeds in Bangladesh. Tests carried out by the chemistry department of the DNC indicated that the seeds did not display any signs of germination.
