The military authorities of Myanmar have allegedly intensified their military readiness in Sittwe, the capital of Arakan (Rakhine), following armed clashes that occurred in Aung Dai Village and Amyint Kyun in Sittwe, Rakhine State, on the 26th of this month.
Sittwe continues to be governed by the military, along with two other towns: Kyaukphyu and Maungaung. The remaining towns in Arakan State, which is made up of 17 townships, are under the control of the Arakan Army (AA).
On the evening of October 26, clashes occurred between the AA and the Myanmar junta forces close to the Kin Chaung Bridge near Amyint Kyun village, while a separate exchange of gunfire took place between the AA and the Myanmar military in Aung Dai Village, situated on the shore to the west of Sittwe.
A resident in Sittwe confirmed that he heard gunfire from both sides on the night of October 26 near Aung Dai Village, located in the western coastal area of Sittwe Township.
“Last Saturday night, we heard gunfire from small weapons in Aung Dai village. We cannot definitively state whether it was a battle, but we did hear the sounds of small arms fire for an extended period," he stated.
There are claims that the Arakan Army (AA) struck the junta outpost in Aung Dai village during that night; however, Narinjara News Agency has not been able to verify this information independently.
