The Arakan Army (AA) clarified that the military junta air forces carried out an airstrike on a camp of prisoners of war in Ann township of Rakhine State that killed 116 individuals and injured 32 others on Wednesday.
The AA statement follows, “During the airstrike by the fascist terrorist military commission on the prisoner of war camp in Darletchaung area of Ann township, Rakhine State, 116 prisoners of war were killed and 32 wounded. Some civilian prisoners were also killed and injured.”
The military commission conducted a continuous air bombardment on the camp for about three and a half hours (11:02 am to 2:28 pm) with four jet fighters and four Y-12s.
Besides 116 casualties, a number of individuals sustained injuries including 32 prisoners of war as well as many others during the inhuman air attacks by the junta forces.
Some of the convicts were also killed and injured in the attack. It was the largest number of prisoners of war (military commission members) who were killed in a single day of attacks across the Rakhine region. Many senior military officers were killed on the spot.
Many prisoners of war were beyond identification because of severe injuries and the number of casualties is suspected to increase after the investigation.
