Fierce Fighting Erupts Between Myanmar Military and Arakan Army on Strategic Mountain Road

Fighting has intensified between the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army (AA) along the Arakan Roma Mountain Road, a critical route connecting Ann Township in Rakhine State to Mindon Township in the Magway Region. Locals commonly refer to this stretch as the Ta Lai Taung–Ta Phan Raung Road.

According to local sources speaking to Narinjara News Agency, the clashes began on August 30 when the junta launched an infiltration attempt utilizing a large force.

"The junta army is advancing across the Rakhine Yoma in divided columns, and the AA is actively engaging these separated lines," a local source reported.

In response to the intense ground engagements, the military has launched heavy bombing raids along the Ta Lai Taung (Ann)–Ta Phan Raung (Mindon) corridor.

A military observer issued a stark warning regarding the escalating conflict, noting the vital strategic importance of the route.

"This road is a critical military asset because it crosses the Arakan Roma to reach Ma Ei and Ann. Travelers moving between Rakhine and Yangon should completely avoid this section. Anyone encountering a military column faces a severe risk of capture or death."

The observer urged all travelers to exercise extreme caution and avoid the Rakhine Roma region while hostilities persist.

Clashes continue daily across multiple strategic points in the Rakhine Roma mountain range, including the Nat Yay Kan air defense base, the Thaphan Raung bypass road, Saw Township in Magway Division, and Nyaungyo in the Bago Division. The military junta has reportedly deployed thousands of troops in a major offensive to push into the region.
